Vietnam has officially recognized cryptocurrency assets through the passage of the Law on Digital Technology Industry, marking a pivotal shift in the country''s regulatory stance. The legislation, approved by the National Assembly on June 14, 2025, will take effect on January 1, 2026, providing a structured framework for digital asset classification and oversight.

The law distinguishes between ''virtual assets'' and ''crypto assets,'' addressing years of ambiguity and aligning with global financial standards. This MOVE follows Vietnam''s inclusion on the Financial Action Task Force''s gray list in 2023 due to inadequate anti-money laundering measures for digital assets. Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính accelerated regulatory efforts earlier this year, directing key financial bodies to draft a comprehensive legal framework.

Vietnam''s decision reflects growing institutional recognition of digital assets as part of the modern financial ecosystem. The regulatory clarity is expected to attract investment and foster innovation in the country''s burgeoning digital economy.
